Robert Duff went missing on 12th January 2013 when he didn’t show up to his daughter’s birthday party. His mother, Helen Duff, told the BBC that the Metropolitan investigation was “absolute shambles”. According to Duff, the appropriate steps “weren’t taken even though we told them that Robert’s actions were completely out of character.” She also mentioned that the police “didn’t take them seriously” because Robert was a drug user. Five years after he went missing, the police formally escalated the investigation to a murder probe after an appeal. They arrested two men suspected of his murder as a result, but they were released shortly after. More recently, in 2020, the police sent divers to a pond in Hampstead Heath to search for Robert’s remains due to a tip, according to the Daily Record. No further action was taken, and Helen Duff urged the police last year to continue the investigation and search the other eight ponds in the Hampstead Heath. She and Robert’s family said they believe he has been murdered but feel “failed” by the Met investigation. HB
