Robert Gibson went missing in 2016 after telling his family he was going out for a walk in their local area. Gibson left his home around 3pm on June 13, 2016 for a walk near Dulwich Park and never returned. Gibson was a well-known figure within his community in Norwood and actively campaigned against the closure of several libraries, particularly Carnegie Library. According to a report by MyLondon, Gibson was described by a friend as a “positive and enthusiastic campaigner”. After his disappearance, police obtained CCTV footage of him in a Co-operative store in Central Hill on the same day of his disappearance. Investigators later found that he boarded a 6:45pm catamaran from Portsmouth to Ryde on the Isle of Wight. January 2017, the police launched a fresh appeal for Gibson, but sadly no results were found and the search was discontinued in March 2017.
